Mandaue City Reclaims Foreshore Lands

The opposition councilors in Mandaue City wants to reclaim the 100 hectare lands that were titled during the 1980′s. The worth of the real properties is said to be more billions of pesos. According to one opposition councilor, one of the recipients of titled lands was the family of Mayor Jonas Cortes.

According to the old agreement, the foreshore land was supposed to be used the city’s socialized housing program however when they were titled, mostly businessmen acquired these lands. The opposition councilors believe that the city should own these lands.

Habitat for Humanity and the Links Inc. To Help Make Affordable Housing Possible

The Links Inc. and Habitat for Humanity International will be working together to assist those living without decent and affordable homes in the United States and some regions in Africa and the Caribbean. The three-year program partnership between the two is dubbed as “Homes without Borders”.

Links Inc. will be raising awareness on the need for affordable shelter and they will be providing resources which includes direct financial support.

Old Main Post Office in Chicago Auctioned

The former main post office in Chicago was auctioned last Thursday for $40 million. The company who bid the highest was International Property Developers North America and they did not disclose what they will do with the old building.

The building was built in 1932 and at one point in time became the biggest postal service facility in the world. The US Postal Service is said to be losing money and the need to sell properties came just to sustain operations.

Makati City’s Revitalization

A series of projects for the 124-hectare premier business district of Makati will soon push through.

According to Anna Margarita Dy, group head of the Strategic Landbank Management Group of Ayala Land, “We intend to maintain Makati’s competitive edge through a constant stream of projects that will keep the place vibrant. We want it to continue being friendly, engaging and interesting to all who live, work and visit here.”

One of their plans is to make Makati City more friendly to pedestrians which is set to be unveiled this November.

The International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong is about to be completed in a few months but despite the global economic crisis, it is already fully-rented. It has already earned the titles, “tallest building in Hong Kong” and “fourth tallest building in the world” at 490 meters, or 1,608 feet and 118 storeys high. It will house 2 of the powerful banks in the world such as Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse. Aside from those, Ritz-Carlton hotel, has already acquired the top 16 floors.
